Abstract:

Introduction: Nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy is the most common andsevere complications in patients suffering from cancer. This study has been done withthe aim of designing an evidence-based nursing care instruction for the nausea andvomiting of the patients suffering from chemotherapy.Methods: This study is a development study method in the chemotherapy ward of theBaqiatallah (A.J) Hospital in 2014. Nausea and vomiting nursing care instruction wasdesigned based on the Stetler Model with an evidence-based approach. The ideas often faculty members of the selected universities were considered for assessing thevalidity of the instruction content through the Delphi model. The applicability of theinstruction was assessed through interviews with 8 relevant clinical experts. Inaddition to assessing nursing reference books, some articles were studied from somewebsites including: Google scholar, Elsevier, Cochran, Proquest, Pubmed and SID.The key words for searching these articles included: care instruction, evidence-basednursing, nausea, vomiting and protocol.Findings: The evidence-based instruction of nausea and vomiting due tochemotherapy in this study included: nursing diagnosis, reasons, evaluation criteriaand nursing interventions .These can be used as a clinical guide for taking care of thepatients undergoing chemotherapy based on the most valid scientific texts with anevidence-based approach.Conclusion: Designing an evidence-based nursing care instruction for patientsundergoing chemotherapy leads to more benefits and increases the achievement of thenursing staff to up-to-date information and finally increases the nursing cares quality.In addition, a part of clinical nurses’ need in facing nausea and vomiting in thesepatients will be met.
