Abstract:
In this work ultrafiltration mixed matrix membranes which used for adsorptive elimination of arsenic from contaminated water is modeled and simulated. Recently ultrafiltration mixed matrix membraneshas gained much attention in removal of heavy metals. Therefore, understanding the mechanism of separation is important from the design and operational point of view. In present work, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for the modeling of ultrafiltration mixed matrix membrane is used. One of the most powerful software in CFD is Comsol multiphysics that solve conservation,velocity and concentration distributionequations based on finite element method. the model is validated with the experimental datas obtained from Arsenic removal, which ultrafiltration mixed matrix membranes were used.The modeling ofthe adsorption coupled with concentration polarization is presented based on the mathematical approach.The effects of inlet water specification, adsorption and transport properties of media are investigated. The model prediction is in good agreement with the experimental results.
