Abstract:

Modified (OH) Multi wall carbon nano tubes (MWCNTs) was used for fabrication of PVC/MWCNTs nanocomposite membranes (NCMs) to improve the CO2/N2 gas separation performance of the neat Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) S60 membrane. Gas permeation and transport characteristics of single gases for CO2 and N2 were investigated and analyzed using constant pressure method. Permeability and selectivity of the NCMs were studied at different pressures of 2-6 bars. Moreover, spectroscopic properties of NCMs were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) technique. The results showed excellent improvement in CO2/N2 selectivity at 3wt% OH-MWCNTs loading. The pressure dependency of permeability for both CO2 and N2 was decreased with an increase in pressure.
