Optical Generation of Tunable Millimetre-Wave Signals Using Optical Phase Modulator and Optical Attenuator Element

Numerical analysis of the optical generation of two bands of continuously tunable millimeter-wave signals using an optical phase modulator (OPM) and an optical attenuator element (OAE) are presented. In this paper, we also demonstrate a filter with a wide fractional tuning range, continuous tuning capability, and a notch filter shape. When the generated optical sidebands apply to photodetectors (PDs), only even-order electrical harmonics can be generated.
