Description of Mass Transport with Chemical Reaction Methanol Synthesis Catalyst Using Dusty Gas Model abstract

The size of methanol synthersis catalysis is usually 4-6 mm and intra – particle diffusion limitation are important in them. In this study we use dustry gas model (DGM) to describe effectiveness factor in the catalyst. The results show that neglecting Knudsen diffusion in DGM ends in wrong effectiveness factors, i.e.Knudsen diffusion is more important that bulk diffusion in catalyst. DGM was utilized to determine concentration profile of reactants and products within the catalyst. The results show that mole fraction of methanol and water increase in catalyst so that they approach to equilibrium value at center of catalyst.
