Design and Simulation of a Microstrip Patch Antenna Array for RFID Applications abstract

Antenna is an important element of each radio transmission system and antenna arrays are becoming increasingly important in wireless communications. In this paper , an 2×2 array of microstrip patch antenna is designed and simulated for RFID active tags. The designed patch antenna array operates at the resonance frequency of 5.4 GHz while this frequency relates to active tags in microwave band. This antenna is based on a thickness of 0.7mm Fiber Reinforced (FR-4) epoxy substrate with a dielectric constant of approximately 4.4 and loss tangent equal to 0.002. it’s feeding technique is a coaxial or probe feed according to 50Ω impedance. The antenna array includes four microstrip patch antennas with symmetrical cuttings and substrate’s dimensions 38×30.378
