Effect of porosity on fatigue behavior of Al/SiC composite foams abstract
The aim of this work is to study the effect of porosity on fatigue behavior of closed cell Al/SiC composite foams. Composite foams with different porosity are produced by casting in which foaming factor is CaCO3 and foam stabilizer is SiC. Results show that the decrease in porosity causes to increase the fatigue strength at the same SiC content. The foams with lower porosities have smaller cells and thicker cell edges and cell walls. Therefore, the fatigue strength of composite foams increases with decreasing porosity. Moreover, it seems to us that the effect of porosity is more at high SiC content
