The Study of Varieties among Different Dialects of KurdishLanguage of Ilam: The Case of Greeting Routines

Sine Kurdish language is the mother tongue of many people all over theworld, examining its sociolinguistic features (as one area of studying alanguage) is of crucial concern. For this purpose, attempt was made toanalyze one aspect of day-to-day interactional discourse includinggreetings by Kurdish sociolinguistic community of Ilam province (westpart of Iran). The study investigates the types and structuralorganization of Kurdish sequence and also the sociolinguistic factors. Italso examines the functions of greetings in the life of people amongdifferent ages. Analysis was made on the recorded and transcribedspeech of various dialects of Ilam among various ages. Resultsindicated that greeting establishes the interpersonal relationship and is anormal sociolinguistic routine. This study also suggests the existence ofvarious types and forms of greetings of different dialects of Ilam basedon discourse differences
