Experimental and numerical study of the hydrogen storage in packed bed storage tank

This paper reports on an experimental investigation and numerical simulations of the heating dynamic during hydrogen charging in activated carbon packed bed storage tank. Experimental and numerical analyses of the heating dynamic during tank charging shows that this heating is mainly due to the fact that the energy loss through heat transfer to the tank wall is quite low in the presence of a packed bed. The analysis of the different flux and source terms that contribute to the heating dynamic showed that the adsorption process is responsible for about 24% of the temperature increase even for moderately adsorbing packed bed.
