Producting and Characterizing of Hydrophobic Nano Coating on Glass by Sol_Gel Process

Abstract:
System based on nano coating are used in water repplant of building faces, glass, concrete deposits, textile and wood. Hydrophobic surfaces with water contact angle higher than 90° have generated a lot of interest both in academia and in industry because of the self-cleaning properties. The only problem in pressent study, also need glasses that don’t become dirty easily. Adhesion of dirty to the glass reduces its transparency and it considerably reduces vision. in present study, tetraethoxysilane based hydrophobic, self-cleaning silica coating on a glass substrate by a single step sol- gel process was prepared. The coating sol was prepared by simple dip coating method. The coating alcosol was prepared by keeping the molar ratio of tetraethoxysilane, ethanol, distilled water and ammonium hydroxide cotnstan. The effect of material such as phenyltriethoxysilane, polymethylmthacrylate, ethanol, silver oxide and cadmium oxide on hydrophobic was studied. The films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffractometry, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy and water contact angle measurment. The result showed that the most hydrophobicity is obtained to with ratio of PTES to TEOS is 1 and the contact angle was 142.5° and increasing this proportion, the hydrophobity is decreased. Furthermore, with increasing the amount of ethanol, the hydrophobity or contact angle is slightly decreased.
