NEGLECTED ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF ETHYLENE GLYCOL AS A COMMON SOLVENT

Antibacterial activity is the ability of a compound for killing or inhibiting the growth ofbacteria [1]. Among several parameters such as temperature and pH which affect minimalinhibitory concentration (MIC) measurements, solvent is the most important one. Forassessment of the activity of an antibacterial agent, selection of an appropriate solvent withleast antibacterial activity is essential. The main aim of the present study is to assess theantibacterial activity of ethylene glycol (EG) against Escherichia coli (E .coli).
