The Discourse Analysis of shyar 143 movie(power,silence,ideology,speech acts)

Discourse analysis is sometimes defined as the analysis of language 'beyond the sentence'. This contrasts with types of analysis which are chiefly concerned with the study of grammar: the study of smaller bits of language, such as sounds (phonetics and phonology), parts of words (morphology), meaning (semantics), and the order of words in sentences (syntax). Discourse analysts study larger chunks of language. This paper is an attempt to show the way in which by analyzing the discourse of a movie, we may uncover some sub-divisions of discourse such as culture, power, silence, ideology, turn taking, discourse frames and speech acts in Iran as a peacale country even during The Imposed War in 1981. In order to do that, a movie named shyar 143 is chosen which is found very interesting because it poses a number of attractive cases for the analysis. The analysis is based on Sapir-Whorf hypothesis formulated by ‘’language’’, ‘’thought’’, and ‘’reality’’. Hopefully, by investigating these aspects I could bring further evidence in support of the idea that we can observe not language but discourse in a movie. The final conclusion of this paper is to prove that Iranian people fight for the Islam’s victory , and contest for freedom and independence of Iran -their native coutry- from the aggression of cruel tyrants or being colonized by strangers.
