An Investigation Of Coastline Changes Around Berise Port With GIS method abstract
Geographic information system is one the most useful methods for data management of coastal protection projects. In this method data processing is carried out and various results & maps are obtined beris port area in south east of Oman sea coastlines, undergone changes such as erosion of rock units and sedimentation around major and lee breskwaters. Aerial photos of Beris area from 1967 and 1993 and hydrometric map of beris port from 2001 and topography map of (I:50000) this area are used in this study.
First these data is interpreted and maps of sedimentary and rock units of each them prepared. Then area unite map are crossed and compared with each others. Comparisons results are sedimentation and erosion areas which presented in the final map.
The main conclusion of this study are 1) most sedimentation rates is observed at north of lee Beris breakwater with 985170 m2 in ten years. It is expcted that this area are with sediments will completely occupied until to 2008. Furthermore in next years sedimentation area at main breakwater head will contact to head of lee breakwater. 2) The main erosional recorded as decrease of Mcliff and Qssh units and convert of them to badland and Qsp units respectively. Climatic factors are especially response to these processes. 3) Erosional sediments from Ms,m and Nm rock units are the main sources of sediments which deposited around Beris port.
