Effect of Crest Width and Geometry on Floating Breakwater Performance abstract
Dimensional performance is a significant criterion thet must be considered in the designe of a floating breakwater. As a result, the geometrical shape of a flating breakwarer, which affects the wave transmission coefficient considerably, must be properly designed to satisfy this criterion. In the majirity of previous wave transmission studies, Ref [1,2,3,4 and 5], the ratio of B/L has been identified as the most important factor thet influences greatly the preformance characteristics of floating breakwaters. Hence the width to wavelength ratio (B/L) is a dimensionless parameter which characterizes the size of a floating breakwaters. This is because, in order to achieve small wave transmission, the width of the floating surface in contract with the water must be as with as possible. The results of previous laboratory studies, theoretical analyses and in situ measurements of a floating breakwaters perfomance revealed thet, in general, the best designs become ineffective beyond L/B=5 or if B/L becomes less then 0.2.
