Evaluation of the effect of silica fume and different types of surface treatment on corrosion in environment like Persian Gulf region abstract
Surface treatment is one of the methods to enhance service life of Concrete Structures in aggressive environment like persian Gulf region. In this project different types of coatings like epoxy, acrylic, silane-siloxane and polyuritan is investingated.
There types of concretes with high water-cement ratio, low water-cement ratio with and without silica fume, were casted and different kind of surface treatments were applied on the concrete samples.
The testd including corrosion potential profiles, rate of corrosiom were conducted on the concrete samples. The results showed thet water-cement ratio, the type of concrete and surface treatment are important on performance of the concrete.
It is found thet the concrete samples with high water-cement ratio (0.6), were from corrosion potential point of view after 30 days. But the concrete sample with low water-cement ratio (0.40) showed active potentials after 110 days, and the concrete samples containing Silica fume with low water-cement ratio (0.40) didn't showed active potential after 450 days.
The sample with diffrent coatings didn't showed active potentials even after one year.
The sample containing Silica fume with all type of coating registered lower corrosion potentials comparing to other types of concretes.
