The size and location of these infrastructures and sometimes the layout of the entire terminal are a function of the nautical requirements of the ships oalling at the port or terminal Optimisation of the design from a nautical point of view reqoires a thorough knowledge and experience in ship handling and herbour design and efficient design tools for ship manoeuvring. This paper presents a numerical model SHIP for the nautical assessment nd optimisation of designs of ports and marine terminals.
