A Simplified Model for Calculation of Blow-by Rate and Hydrodynamic Lubrication of Piston Rings in Internal Combustion Engi abstract
A simplified model for calculating important parameters in piston ring pack is explained. In this model the pressure in some points around the piston rings are used as boundary conditions for the governing equation of the oil film between the ring running surface and the liner. Oil starvation condition and the shape of ring running surface in this situation are considered. The model is solved by a computer program, which calculates the blow-by rate and inter ring pressure, then solves the Reynolds equation for the oil film between ring running surface and the liner. For validation of the results, measurements have been done for
determination of blow-by rate and piston ring total mechanical losses using blow-by-meter and motoring test beds.
