Abstract:
Dual phase steels are considered as one of the most important steels among advanced high strength steels which have been developed for especial applications in the automotive industry. Microstructure of DP steels mainly consists of soft ferrite phase and hard martensitic islands. In the present study, effect of cooling rates on the banded structure as a result of Mn segregation has been investigated for 0.15C-2.5Mn steel. Results showed that cooling media has profound effect on the structural banding while applying high cooling rate leads to removal of the intensity of structural banding. Different cooling rates lead to the formation of different microstructure with enhanced mechanical properties.
