Abstract:
Medium density polyethylene (MDPE) and its nanocomposites with different nano-sized calcium carbonate (CaCO3) were fabricated by compression molding method. The creep behavior of pure MDPE and MDPE/CaCO3 nanocomposites were studied at constant load and different temperatures i.e. 30, 60 and 90°C using thermo mechanical analyzer (TMA). Dispersion of nano-sized calcium carbonate inside MDPE and interfacial adhesion between matrix and nano-filler were investigated using SEM. The TMA results showed that the creep deformation and creep strain rate decreased by addition of nano-sized Calcium Carbonate, implying the reinforcing effect of nano-sized Calcium Carbonate
