Abstract:

The worldwide automotive market is driven by several important factors. Main driver is the legislation which requires different levels for CO2 emissions and exhaust gas emissions like HC, Nox. A high impact is also given by diagnosis requirements from the legislation. This leads today to a huge effort in the development of software for engine control systems. Beside legislation the end consumers have high requirements on vehicle performance and cost. Due to the increasing number of vehicle models combined with cost restrictions the quality of automotive products is very important. To fullfill these requirements Bosch is developing different new engine control systems for todays and future powertrains. At the time the second generation of control systems for gasoline direct injection will be introduced into the market. For the future Bosch has new control systems under development for CNG and ethanol driven gasolines, hybrid powertrains and engines with cylinder deactivation. Alternative fuels are offering a big potential for the reduction of CO2 emissions in a lot of regions. In the area of hybrid powertrains different designes from simple start-stopp systems up to strong hybrids with large electic motors can fulfill the different needs of the regions. The Bosch activities will be completed by investigations in new diagnosis algorithms and advanced systems for direct injection.
