A Study of Cadmium , Chromium and Lead in Native Plant Species Anzali Wetland (IRAN) abstract
The concentrations of metals Cadmium (Cd), Chromium (Cr) Lead (Pb) and in water, sediments and tissue of three native plant species (Trapa natans, Ceratophyllum demersum and Hydrocotyl vulgaris) collected from Anzali Wetland invested. The aim was to define which plant species exhibit the greatest accumulation and evaluate whether these species could be usefully employed in phytoremediation programs.Wet digestion method was employed for extraction of metals in samples and Atomic Adsorption Spectrophotometry was employed for the measurement of heavy metals. Hydrophytes due to existence in ecosystem are useful indicators for heavy metal pollution. Total metal concentrations of Pb, Cr and Cd in sediment were 11.93±1.69, 6.21±0.27 and 1.43±0.66 µg/g, and for water were 0.057 ±0.01, 0.055±0.02 and 0.060±0.01 mg/l respectively. Accumulation of Pb was highest in Hydrocotyl vulgaris specie in anzali wetland.
