Synthesis of Al-CNT Nanocrystalline-Nanocomposite Powder Particles by Mechanical Milling abstract
In this paper mechanical alloying was used for dispersing different content of carbon nanotube in Al6061 powder particles. The effect of milling time and process parameters on morphology, particle size distribution and decreasing rate of powder particle size (K) during milling was quantified by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and laser particle size analyzer. It was concluded that by 4h milling of Al-5wt%CNT powder mixture a homogeneous distribution of CNT in flattened Al powder particles could be achieved. Particle size distribution results showed that the average particle size (D50) decreased by increasing milling time and CNT content. It was also shown
that increasing milling time and decreasing CNT content decreased K index. In addition X-Ray diffraction studies revealed that nanocrystalline aluminum powder particles could be achieved by milling of powder mixture for optimum milling time.
