Effect of Bolt Arrangements in Structural Response of Cold-formed Steel Structure abstract
This paper investigates the effects of different bolt arrangements on the moment-rotation behavior of cold formed steel(CFS) sections.A finite element analysis (FEA) are carried out on different bolt arrangements of CFS beam-to-column connections, using three type of CFS sections (flat flange, segmental flange, and curved flange) with three thickness (2mm, 4mm and 6mm). The load displacement results from FEA are post-processed and the moment-rotation (MR) behavior and the buckling failures of CFS beams are obtained. Effects of different parameters (CFS section types, thicknesses and bolt arrangements) on characteristics of CFS beam sections such as stiffness, ductility the ultimate bending capacity are compared. The comparison of results indicated that the bolt arrangement has insignificant effects on thin CFS sections. Using common square bolt arrangements in thicker CFS sections resulted in higher elastic stiffness, but lower ductility and ultimate moment capacity. Higher ductility and the ultimate bending moment are achieved in CFS sections with diamond and circle bolt arrangements.
