REMOVAL OF LEADIONS FROMAQUEOUS SOLUTION BY NANOCRYSTALLINE MAGNETTE SYNTHESIZED VTA MECHANTAL,MLLNG abstract

Lead is a toxic metal existing in the environment naturally and a pollutant originating from industrial and agricultural sources. In this study the removal of lead ions from aqueous solution by nano-magnetite was investigated. Thenano-magnetitewas synthesized by mechanochemicalreaction. For this purpose the initial powder of hematite were milled fordifferent times in a high energy planetary millin argon atmosphere withpowder-to-ballmass ratio of 1:25.The resultant powderswere characterized usingX-ray diffraction (XRD) andscanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was revealed thatafter45 hours milling the nano-magnetite were formed almost completely. The synthesized nano-magnetitewasthen usedtoadsorb Pb(II) ionsfrom aqueous medium. The results suggested that the synthesized material could be usedas effective and economic absorbent for pb removal from aqueous solutions.
