CHARACTERIZATION OF NANOSCALEND-DOPED GLASS-CERAMICS IN THE SOCAO-MGO SYSTEMSYNTHESIZED BY SOLGELMETHOD abstract

In the recent years, glass-ceramics are used as lasers because of their high thermal stability. Sol-gel derived glasses compared with conventional melt-processed, have better compositional hemoginity. In this study, the synthesis of Nd doped SiO2-CaO-MgO glasses was performed by sol-gel process and characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), simultaneous thermal analysis (STA), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and photoluminescence spectra (PL). The proper temperature for nucleation in glass matrix found by STA is 900 C. Luminescence measurements showed that Nd ions entered into the crystalline phase and induced a much stronger emission in the glass ceramics than that in the corresponding glass.
