Abstract:
Phosphate is an inhibitor with vast usage for controlling the corrosion in cooling towers and boilers. Accordingly, measuring the amount of this ion has attracted considerable attention. Various methods are used for this analysis; among them sensors based on electrochemical reaction have received noticeable attention. In this paper a molybdate doped polypyrrole (PPy) coating is used as a sensor for measuring phosphate ion in solutions. The microstructure of the coating is analyzed using SEM in which globular structure was revealed. The electrochemical currents were used as the responses of PPy-molybdate toward phosphate concentration. A linear range was found between 120 micro molar phosphates ion in which PPy-molybdate sensor could respond. Appropriate nitric acid concentration and potential for amperometric measurement was investigated.
