THE EFFECT OF ELECTROCHEMICAL PARAMETERS ON CORROSION RESPONSE OF HYDROXYAPATTE COATING ON AZ31 MAGNESUM ALLOY abstract
Magnesium and its alloys are good candidates as body implant mainly for their mechanical strength and biodegradability. But their weak corrosion behavior can cause sudden failure of implants. In order to control corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of the alloys, hydroxyapatite coating is applied on AZ31 magnesium alloy. Electrodeposition was used to apply the coating at different potentials to optimize its properties, Microstructure and corrosion behavior of the coated samples were compared using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electrochemical tests respectively. The results shown that there is an optimum voltage and temperature at which HA coating is totally homogeneous and its corrosion behavior is improved.
