A Study of the Relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Translation Quality among Senior Students of Islamic Azad University of Tabriz and University College of Nabyi Akram of Tabriz

The present study examined the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and translation quality. The methodology was an integrated approach and it was conducted using integration of two research methods, i.e. qualitative and quantitative methods. Participants who took part in thisresearch were female and male senior students of English translation studies at M.A level of Azad University of Tabriz Branch and Nabyi Akram University in 2016 (N=65). The sample consistedof 49 senior students of English translation studies field at M.A level of Islamic Azad University of Tabriz Branch and Nabyi Akram University who were selected using Cochran s formula throughstratified sampling method. To collect data related to translation quality, firstly, the chosen translation text of the grapes of Wrath by beck including 156 words was provided to participantsand they were asked to translate it during 20 minutes. Then and during the same session, the participants were provided an EQ Bar-On questionnaire to specify participant s profiles. House TQA Model was applied to assess translation quality. And, Bar-On emotional intelligence questionnaire was used to analyze the emotional intelligence of the subjects. The construct validityof this questionnaire was confirmed by experts and its reliability is calculated using Cronbach Alpha (0.849). Pearson correlation coefficient and regression test were used to analyze data. Theresults showed that among emotional intelligence components (Problem Solving, Happiness, Independence, Stress Tolerance, Self-Actualization, Emotional, Self-Awareness, Reality Testing,Interpersonal Relationship, Optimism, Self-Regard, Impulse Control, Flexibility, SocialResponsibility, Empathy and Assertiveness) only happiness variable significantly related to translation quality.
