A Sociological Approach towards Translation of Novels A Case Study of References to Russian Revolution in George Orwell’s Animal Farm and Its Persian Translation abstract

The present study was conducted to see whether there are any underlying sociological meanings in the translation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm into Persian language. There are several translations of Orwell’s Animal Farm in Persian language. Out of these translations two translations rendered byAmir Amirshahi and Saleh Hosseini were selected to be compared against the text to see to what extentthe sociopolitical conditions of the country in the time of translation condition the Persian translations to be more precise, the study was limited to the study of references to Russian Revolutions in Orwell’s Animal Farm and their translation into Persian languages. To be even more precise references to Russian Revolutions were categorized as references to the events , characters and terminology . In the whole thesis, it was attempted to examine he translation of these three categories and theirtranslation into two Persian translations rendered by Amir Amirshahi and Saleh Hosseini to the effects of sociopolitical conditions on their translations. Also Pierre Bourdieu’s points of view are consideredin this issue too. According to .A translation product, from the choice of the original and translation strategy to the production and release of translation products, is the result of social negotiation andconstruction. A translation activity in any society or period will reflect the structure or relation in that society or period. Translation activities operate in society, correlating with the life world. Incontemporary society, the relation between translation activities and society are becoming increasingly close. The social problems triggered by translation and problems in translation caused by social context and changes are more and more Complex. So priority should be given to the social nature of translation.
