Abstract:
In this paper the behavior of flexural steel frames using a new cable bracing system is investigated. X bracing with angle profiles, X bracing with cable and bracing with two cables passing cylindrical steel sheaths in the intersection of cables are the three types of retrofitting of flexural steel frames studied in this paper. The finite element models of steel frame without and with three types of retrofitting have been made. The non-linear analysis of frames under cyclic loading with increasing oscillations has been done. Comparison of the results from finite element models with experimental data shows that the finite element models have acceptable accuracy. By determining the shear base, the axial force of columns, cyclic behavior of force-displacement, failure mechanism of frames, the advantages and disadvantages of each type of retrofitting systems have been investigated.
