Abstract:

Biodiesel is a potential renewable and biodegradable fuel source. The trans-esterification reaction of waste cooking oil with isopropyl alcohol using sodium hydroxide as catalyst has been deliberated for the production of biodiesel. The objective of this study is to find the best condition for the production of isopropyl esters of waste oil. The biodiesel obtained by the reaction of waste oil with alcohol using small amounts of sodium hydroxide as catalyst was studied. The maximum biodiesel yield of 96.7% at 65℃ reaction temperature, isopropyl alcohol/oil molar ratio of 1:22, agitation speed of 400 rpm, 1.5wt.% sodium hydroxide as a catalyst and 2 h reaction time
