Electrochemical noise analysis of weld joint of 316 stainless steel in scc test abstract
Electrochemical Noise, EN, has attracted too much attention in recent years for monitoring localized corrosion. In this study, electrochemical current and potential noises of weld joints of316S.S exposed to acidified 25% MgCh solution at 90·C using Slow Strain Rate Test were investigated.Crack initiation and its subsequent propagation by means of SCC current and potential noises patterns, during crack growth were studied. A three-electrode set up was used to detect the noises. Current was measured between two similar electrodes and the potential was measured between the working electrode and aPt wire used as reference electrode. The results were analyzed in time domain and the fractured surfaces were studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A good relation was recognized between the fluctuations of the current and potential with initiation and propagation of cracks during SCC ofthe specimens that can be used for monitoring SCC.
