Anti-Candida albicans activity of Cuminum cyminum and Heraceliumpersicum essential oils abstract
Essential oils from aerial parts of Cuminum cyminum and Heracelium persicum were obtained by steam distillation using a Clevenger-type system. Subsequently, these oils were assayed for anti-Candida albicans activity using broth macrodilution method. Both essential oils were effective against C. albicans, representing MIC and MFC values from 280 to 1100 µg/ml. The oil of C. cyminum showed significant inhibitory activity against C. albicans (P<0.05), whereas H. persicum presented moderate inhibition against C. albicans. As a result of this experiment, C. cyminum, can be candidate for further studies due to their antifungal potencies.
