Abstract:
This work establishes a simple and rapid method for determination of capecitabine, an anticancer drug, by chemiluminescence (CL) technique. The method is based on the measurement of the CL signal produced from oxidation of capecitabine by potassium permanganate in sulfuric acid medium. The optimum chemical conditions for the CL emission were 1.0×10-3 mol L-1 potassium permanganate and 0.25 mol L-1 sulfuric acid. The CL response was proportional to the concentration of capecitabine in the ranges of 2.4-24.0 µg mL-1 and 24.0-960.0 µg mL-1. The detection limit was 0.21 µg mL-1. (3:1 signal-to-noise ratio). The relative standard deviation of the proposed method calculated by 10 repetitive injections of 47.9 µg mL-1 capecitabine solution, was 3.8%. The present CL procedure has been applied to the determination of capecitabine in synthetic samples.
