Abstract:

In this article, scholar tries to explore the real post colonial understanding in the former colonies of Britain with consideration of globalization. As it seems post colonialism has gone through different phases from the beginning of independence till this day. Post colonialism has been understood for a while as only an economic one in the immediate post colonial era but with the passage of time it moves to find more cultural dimensions as to include the very effect received from the center. It was seen as all being negative on the life of the colonized countries but following that, some positive aspects could also be driven. This went as far as helping shape a new identity for the colonized countries which was not to be seen as all negative. There can be said that a positive compromise can also been seen taking place between the colonized countries and the center as to make up a more universal culture based on shared human values than hostility. Still, it can be noted that despite the amalgamation effect of post colonialism, the nationalist tendencies in the post colonial era affected the ethnic lives negatively and post colonial era came to be seen by some as having a more devastating effect on ethnicity than saving it. Nationalists, under the excuse of bringing different ethnic groups together and creating one state, crushed ethnicities. They defined nationalism as opposing colonialism but it was actually ruling over their respective countries using force and destruction. They took a superficial understanding of colonialism that ruled over many countries and extended it to their own countries and the iron hand became the rule of the day. As colonies were once colonized they now became colonized again and this time by the very post colonial national leaders who did not assume any chance for freedom of and respect to ethnic groups, even as much as given to them by the colonizers. This article is about different understanding of post colonialism with its positive and negative effects, along with studying the formation of nationalism and ethnic identity as influenced by post colonialism.
