Contributing to Climate Change Solutions in Oil Sector abstract
Global climate change is one of the serious problems faced by humankind in the 21st century. Developing policies and practices that tackle climate change without removing opportunities for growth and development has become one of the most significant challenges for governments and industries. In this regard, the oil companies are also suggested to manage appropriate climate change technologies in a strategic way and participate in the relevant policy making process, and join the international network for accelerating the innovation process. This paper discusses the roles of governments and industries including oil companies in policy making process for climate change mitigation. Also, this study shed lights to energy regulators in Iran on the need to design and implement energy efficiency and climate change policies with emphasis on Iran’s petroleum sector. Results of the study represents all climate change strategies that governments and oil companies can adopt, as the success of initiatives depends to a large extent on effective cooperation among oil and gas companies, host countries, end-users, and companies from other sectors.
