Sectoral Analysis of Energy Consumption in Iran abstract

This paper represents a detailed sectoral analysis of enegy consmption patern in Iran during the past decade. Total final energy consumption in Iran was 1229.7 Mboe in 1392, and on average increased at an annual rate of 5% during 1382-1392. Also, household and commercial sector has been the main consuming sector used 440.7 Mboe energy in 1392. Energy consumption in transport, industry and agricultural sectors were 311 Mboe, 301.9 Mboe, and 49.61 Mboe, respectively. Over the last decades, Iran’s final energy consumption pattern has been inefficient and contributed towards the excessive consumption of fossil fuels which produced several quantities of pollutants and greenhouse gases. This study describes that low price of energy and high subsidies represent an effective incentive for inefficient energy consumption pattern, accelerating energy use and environmental pollutions. This study provides a detailed analysis of the energy conservation policies by sectors that are necessary to control excessive energy consumption in Iran.
