Fault Current Limiter to Recover Over Current Relays in Distribution Grids in Presence of Distributed Generation Sources Using GA and PSO Algorithms abstract

Overcurrent relays are considered as key protection equipment. For increasing reliability of distribution system and minimizing charge cut in network, these relays coordinate in unusual situations and when the faults occur. Thus coordination should be optimized as much as possible aiming to minimize damage and stress to equipment involved in fault. Therefore, coordination among overcurrent relays is requisite in operating and designing distribution system. Applying distributed generation to power system in distribution level causes considerable change in current features in comparison to former systems. It causes changes in protection design and coordination patterns in overcurrent relays subsequently. This paper aims to optimize this issue through intelligent PSO and GA algorithms in a real distribution system with 60 busbar in order to enhance voltage profile with the least possible cost. This strategy is based on using fault current limiters.
