Leaching of NdFeB scrap permanent magnet in Nitric Acid abstract

The rare-earth elements (REEs) are becoming increasingly important in the transition to a green economy, due to their essential role in permanent magnets, lamp phosphors, catalysts, rechargeable batteries etc. In this study leaching condition of NdFeB magnet in acid nitric was investigated. First, Demagnetization of NdFeB scrap permanent magnet was carried out and then, the effect of acid concentration, leaching time, temperature and solid to liquid ratio on leaching efficiency were studied and the best condition of leaching process was preferred. In order to characterize identify the phase constituent of the alloy, XRD analysis was performed and then, to investigate the chemical analysis of the elements in the magnet powder scrap, The ICP-OES analyzer was used. It was shown that in the best condition, 95% of neodymium from NdFeB magnet could be recovered in acid concentration of 2 mol/liter, leaching time of 15 minutes S/L of 0.02 at 25oC.
