Abstract:

In recent years, much attention has been paid to finding new anticancer drugs that contain metal ions. The first metal compounds of the case Use in drug chemistry was iron compounds. Subsequently, was expanded the use of compounds such as copper, Mn and Schiff bases are organic ligands that are formed through the condensation reactions. These complexes revelated various applications in clinical, and industrial processes. Many potentials for these compounds have been reported, including anti- cancer, antioxidant, antibacterial , etc. Inhibition of DPPH (diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) free radicals. At first, free radicals DPPH were generated by dissolving 1 mg of DPPH powder in 16.9 ml of ethanol. Subsequently, various concentrations (500, 250, 125, 62.5 and 31.2μg/ml) of the Schiff base wereprepared in a volume of 500 μl. Then it was mixed with equal volume of DPPH free radicals and incubated for 30 minutes in darkness at 37ċ. After incubation, absorbance was recorded at 517 nm.Ethanol and BHA were used as a negative and positive control respectively. Inhibition of ABTS (Azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6 sulfonic acid) free radicals. The free radicals of ABTS were produced by mixing ABTS powder and potassium persulfate in distilled water after 16 h of incubation in darkness. The working solution was then prepared by diluting 50 equivalents of the resulting solution. Then, the equal volume of the solution was combined with different concentrations of the Schiff base and after one hours incubation at room temperature, the absorbance was recorded at 734 nm. distilled water and BHA were used as a negative and positive control respectively. The results showed that the schift base is capable of inhibiting the DPPH (IC50 about 60 μg/ml ). The inhibition of ABTS free radicals in the concentration of 30μg/ml was reported about 64% which indicates the high power of the Schiff base in inhibiting ABTS free radicals. Also, the comparison of free radical scavenging of schiff base with BHA as antioxidant compounds shows the high potency of schiff base in inhibiting free radicals. The evaluation of free radical scavenging and antioxidant power of schiff base showed that this compound has high antioxidant properties, that due to its synthetic nature, more studies can be done as a drug with antioxidant properties
