Abstract:

Green synthesis offers an improvement over chemical methods, in which the use of natural substances rise into the synthesis of environmentally friendly and non-toxic nanoparticles, which can be used inlarge-scale. In this study, zinc oxide nanoparticles (Zn O nanoparticles) were synthesized via green chemistry using Rubia tinctorum extract as reducing and stabilizing agent. ABTS (2,2 -azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid)) is used to measure the antioxidant activity of the substances and its radical form has the maximum absorbance at 734 nm. Reducing with antioxidant resulted indecreasing of the peak absorbance. Thus, the antioxidant effects of Zn O nanoparticles synthesized in Rubia tinctorum extract have done. In addition, Hoechst test was performed in order to determine theamount of cell viability on MCF7 breast cancer cell line. Results showed that IC50 value for ABTS scavenging activity of Zn O nanoparticle was about 300 μg/ml. The Hoechst test also showed that ZnO nanoparticles significantly kill MCF7 breast cancer cells. Antioxidant effects of Zn O nanoparticles along with its killing effects on cancer cell line indicated that this nanoparticle has anticancer propertieswhich further studies should be done in order to its usage in the clinic.
