Lane change duration modeling based on Iranian driving behavior abstract
Vehicles lane changing has a substantial effect on the traffic flow characteristics such as speed, volume, and safety. So it’s modeling in traffic simulation packages is so important. Most of the studies in the lane changing context have focused on decision making in the process of a lane change action and have assumed it as an instantaneous action, which makes the result of the simulations unreliable. Previous studies have mentioned that, the average time of lane changing is between 5-6 second. And duo to the fact, that, drivers in different regions have different driving behaviors, we proposed a particular lane changing duration model for Iranian passenger cars. In this research, we extracted detailed vehicle trajectory data from an urban highway in Tehran, by mounting a camera on a high rise bridge. Then, we investigated lane changing behavior of drivers and factors that affect the lane changing duration.
