Determination of diffusion-dispersion coefficient of chloride and its break through curve in a smectitic calcareous soil abstract

Break through curve (BTC) and its coefficients are of the most important hydraulic attributes which influenced by different factors such as soil texture, the type and the amount of clay minerals in soil, properties of the clay minerals etc. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to determine the BTC and the diffusion-dispersion coefficient (Dsh) of chloride in a smectatic calcareous soil from Sepidan region, Fars province. Results indicated that the mean value of water velocity in the soil pores is 0.0093 cm s-1 and Dsh of chloride is 0.0296 cm2 min-1. Furthermore results showed that the break through time of the studied soil is 50 min. The obtained information from such experiments can be used in managing solute transport, remediation of saline-sodic soils, fertilizer application management, waste and residue disposal management.
