Abstract:

Introduction & Aim: Breast cancer is one of the major cause of tumor-related death worldwide. Finding appropriate biomarker can improve treatment, diagnosis and prediction of breast cancer. The different miRNAs expression between patient and normal samples can be considered as a suitable biomarker. Materials and methods: A variety of miRNA target prediction tools and databases including miRWalk, targeTScan and DIANA-microT-CDS have been utilized. The hsa-miR-139-5p expression level has been evaluated by GEO microarray data, GSE45666, which consist of miRNAs profile of 101 breast tumor samples and 15 adjacent breast normal tissue samples. The GEO2R used to analyze the data in order to identify differentially expressed miRNAs Results: GEO2R results indicate that hsa-miR-139-5p is negatively correlated with breast cancer and its expression has been decreased in patient samples (p value=1.97e-21). Most of the predicted targets of hsamiR- 139-5p are well-known proto-oncogenes such as AKT, PI3K, ERK, and beta-catenin. Conclusion: Our finding confirms the usefulness of hsa-miR-139-5p as a potential breast cancer biomarker and it sheds new light on understanding the regulatory role of hsa-miR-139 on molecular base of breast cancer. Evaluating microarray data is less time-consuming and costly approach and it can be used as the pilot study for further investigations
