Electrocatalytic Oxidation of Methanol by Carbon Paste Electrode Modified with Poly (N-methylaniline)/Pt abstract
Preparation and characterization of a platinum (Pt) based catalyst using a redox polymer, poly (N-methylaniline) (PNMA), as the support material was described. Pt particles were obtained from aqueous solution of K2PtCl6 in the complex form by electrochemical technique. Electrochemical reduction of PtCl6 2- was carried out at the surface of PNMA film in H2SO4 solution. The PNMA/Pt catalyst system showed catalytic activity towards methanol oxidation in acidic solution. Cyclic voltammetry was used for the electrochemical characterization of the catalyst system. The current density of the methanol oxidation at CPE/PNMA/Pt was measured in optimized conditions. Results show that, the anodic peak current of methanol oxidation at a CPE/PNMA/Pt is about three and half times greater than that obtained for a CPE/Pt, indicating the effect of PNMA film on the electrode reaction kinetics.
