Study of Methanol Electrooxidtion at Carbon Clectrodes Modified With Ni-Salen Complex and CNTs Functionalized with Ni-Salen Complex abstract

Electrocatalytic oxidation of methanol on a glassy carbon disk electrode modified with Ni-Salen complex and the other one modified with carbon nanotubes functionalized with Ni-Salen complex in alkaline medium is studied. Cyclic voltammetry, RDE (Rotating Disk Electrode) and Chronoamperometry has been employed to characterize electrocatalytic oxidation of methanol. These modified electrodes showed an efficient catalytic activity towards methanol oxidation. The result obtained allowed our conclusion that Ni-Salen effects on the properties of the catalyst via Ni(III) species. The effects of various parameters such as methanol concentration, Ni-Salen complex concentration, number of complex solution drops, potential range, temperature and scan rates were investigated.
