2D and 3D Geometric Modeling of Marine Propellers abstract
This paper investigates the formulation and the methos of the 2Dand 3D geomaetry transformation of propeller. Two geometry codes, namely 2D and 3D codes, are developed for the geometry of propeller. The 2D code can tranform any 3D geometry to 2Done , and achieves the geometrical specifications such as pitch, skew and chord distribution. The 3D code is employed for transforming the 2D expanded view to the 3D propeller The complete model is then obtained by transforming the whole geometry in to surface & volume using CAD softwares. The codes are employed on the 6 blade left-handed and 4 blade right- handed propellers, and both the 2D and 3D results are compared and verified with the other softwares. The method is then applied to obtain the 2D geometry of an unknown surface piercing propeller(SPP).
