Abstract:

Thermoluminescence (TL) characteristics ofX-ray irradiated pure and doped with Nd(3+) ions glasseshave been studied in the temperature range 303–573 K; allthe pure glasses have exhibited single TL peak at 382, 424and 466 K, respectively. When these glasses are dopedwith Nd(3+) ions no additional peaks are observed but theglow peak temperature of the existing glow peak shiftedgradually towards higher temperatures with gain in intensityof TL light output. The area under the glow curve isfound to be maximum for Nd(3+)-doped glasses mixed withcadmium oxide as modifier. The trap depth parametersassociated with the observed TL peaks have been evaluatedusing Chen’s formulae. The possible use of these glasses inradiation dosimetry has been described. The result clearlyshowed that neodymium (Nd)-doped cadmium borate glasshas a potential to be considered as the thermoluminescencedosimeter.
