Investigate the relationship between participation in sports and identity of students at University of Tehran

Background: Sport is as social and cultural phenomenon that gathers individuals in a social network that has complex social relationships and interactions prompted the emergence force behaviors, attitudes, values and representations have been there for centuries. This multidimensional phenomenon, as it has in the context of human life and influence today can to be recognized penetrate due to their attitude and exercise, mindset, lifestyle and overall identity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between participation in sports and the identity of Tehran University students. Materials and Methods: This research is Descriptive and correlation study and wasconducted using a questionnaire that confirmed its validity in terms of sports management professors as well as its reliability was estimated by Cronbach s alpha of 0.82. The population of study was all the students of Tehran University (about 32 thousand) and on the basis of Morgan 384 students randomly were selected through stratified sampling. For data analysis, in level of inferential statistics were used Shapiro- Wilk test (to determine the normality of the data) and Regression analysis. Results and Discussions: The present study results indicate that, participate in sporting activities has significant relationship between identity of students that, this relation is direct and positive. There is significant correlation between collective and national identity of student who participate in sports. Conclusion: According to the research results, it is suggested that universities adopt measures to students have more presence in sports
