Abstract:
Boron is a crucial mineral in the world that is used in different commercial sector. Boron mining has large capacity reserve in Turkey. This reserve is nearly %72 of the world reserve. When the boron mineral is separated from natural form so as to be used for commercial purpose, boron waste remains. The vast quantity of waste accumulating spread on a large disposal area. The evaluation of boron waste is very important in economy and environmental pollution. A large quantity of asphalt concrete products consists of aggregates. For construction of roads and highway, a big amount of aggregate usage is needed. So, the use of boron wastes as alternative aggregate in highway engineering may be effective. In this study, boron waste was used, which was provided in Kütahya region in Turkey, as mineral filler aggregate in hot mix asphalt concrete. For this purpose, two groups of hot mix asphalt concrete were obtained. In the first group; asphalt concrete was produced with classical aggregate and in the second group; boron waste was used as mineral filler. In both of the groups, limestone was used as fine and coarse aggregate. Marshall stability and other mechanical properties were determined. By the findings of this study, using boron waste as mineral filler aggregate in asphalt concrete is convenient in roads that have light traffic potential
